Barrie Roberts holds an HNC in Engineering and started his career as a Management Trainee with the Ford Motor Company in Dagenham, in 1960. He remained with Ford for 4 years before taking up a post a Sales Executive for Chrysler Corporation. This gave him a wide experience in Dealer development and importation from the USA to the UK. He then became Sales Director for a major UK dealership.
During 1974 Barrie had identified that there was a growing potential in the Aircraft Spares industry and CASCO was incorporated in 1982.
In 1989 CASCO gained a 2 year contract with Virgin Airlines to handle their logistics and during this period built their new facilities, and moved from 1250 sq. ft. to 12,000 sq. ft. This turned the CASCO into an Airline support operation 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
A Consignment Agreement was signed to manage all the BAE 146 spares with US Airways in 1997, and help them retrieve 18 aircraft from the desert in Arizona with US$54 million worth of spares shipped into the UK, and the contract was completed before the 3 year period in April 2000, which achieved a much larger return for both US Airways and CASCO.
The Company still support many of these BAe 146 Aircraft on flying hour agreements and now provides flexible and low cost support solutions for Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer products.
Denis Smith joined the RAF as a 'Boy' Entrant in 1963. He was posted to many UK and Overseas Locations, while studying his apprenticeship as an Airframe Mechanic and came out of service in 1969 holding the post of Warrant Officer.
He took up a civil position as Project Engineer with Rolls Royce training at East Kilbride. Between 1971 and 1984, Denis moved into the Aircraft Spares Industry with an established company in Sussex, as a Quality Inspector, being promoted to the position of Technical Director. After a short period when Denis founded and ran his own Company, he decided to join force with the founder Director of CASCO in 1985 where Denis provided the technical expertise for the business. He was a key player in establishing trade standards in technical and quality issues, and in Commercial Aerospace achieving ISO 9002.
He was appointed to the position of Technical Director in April 1987 and joined the Board.
In 1972 his career started in Sales and Sales Management with Volvo but he wanted his career to develop into the sky, and in 1980 with Anglo American Flight, he gained his FAA Commercial Pilots Licence. After studying at the London School of Navigation, John gained his CAA Commercial Pilots Licence.
From 1988 to 1994 John was a Commercial Pilot for British World Airlines. In 1994 he was offered the opportunity in the aircraft spares business with CASCO joining the founder Director. With his background knowledge and network of contacts, John was key in expanding the business, and creating a strong, loyal customer base and successful sales team.
He was appointed Sales Director and joined the Board in 1999.
